Finally figured it out
Finally figured it out...who/what is going to drive me when the going gets rough on the marathon trail. It hit me between the eyes when I was watching a TV special report...the injured soldiers, marines, etc. who have lost their legs!!!!!!!!!!!!! The article was about the latest, greatest, prostheses that are available to our injured military and it occurred to me...were it not for them and all the courageous souls in years past who have defended our country, we would not be preparing to run the Chicago Marathon. So, when I am beginning to really struggle, which I am guessing will be around mile 18, I am going to visualize those young, brave men/women who are now struggling to walk on their metal prostheses. I will then reach down and pull up more determination to get through my insignificant, albeit mild, challenge. The appreciation, admiration and respect I have for them and for all of our troops will help carry me across that line.

You are so right. We are so lucky to have legs to carry us over the finish line and so blessed to have men and women willing to lose their legs so we have the freedom to do it!
God bless all our troops present, future and past. We owe them so much!

Brilliant! I will do the same! Thanks for posting this.
Amen.....Amen.
Great idea! Connie Overby is planning to put her nephew's name (Corey) on her marathon shirt. Corey has been in Iraq for the past couple of months. She will hear his name all the way to the finish line.

That's a great idea. YOu're the best!
I am planning on coming to the Renaissance to meet the group Sunday morning. (We're staying at the Intercontinental). I'd like it alot if we could hook up and start together. I will have to play it by ear when you start running intervals, but am willing to give it a try. I have worked up to 5 minute runs without stopping, but haven't really done a lot of running over a long distance. You still planning on 1:1 intervals? ( I can set my Garmin accordingly)
If I can't keep up then, of course, I'd expect you to go on, and I'll walk my "race", but at least we can start out together.
(I also will put your cell phone number from Mark's list in my phone so if we miss each other at the hotel maybe we can meet up on the course.)
I have to work tomorrow morning and our flight leaves around 2:00 p.m. We don't get there in time for the boat tour. But I'll see you at some point in Chicago, if not Saturday then Sunday morning. Have a great trip.
I have a "second cell" as I just got a new blackberry. I am going to carry it as well as my cell that's on the list. The new number is 769-232-1932. I'll have 601-750-0684 with me as well (that's the number on Mark's sheet).
