Gee, it has been 13 days since I have walked! I am a staunch member of that "sandwich generation" where I have been taking care of parents and children. After I got back from the weekend with looking at a nursing home for my dad, my oldest son was admitted to the hospital in Huntsville, Al which is about a 5-hr. drive. He was in the hosp. for 5 days and I stayed most nights and every day. I was worried sick the whole time and haven't recuperated yet. He has a horrible condition called gastroparesis and also something called Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS). He has intermittent vomiting episodes accompanied by intense abdominal pain. The only thing that stops the vomiting and pain is medication given to cancer patients going through chemo. He went a straight 7 days without being able to keep anything down...not even water. Enough about that, but it was tough seeing your child suffer so much. We are moving him here to be closer to us and hopefully, when his short term disability expires with his current job, he can find a job here. Keep him in your prayers.
I walked for 40 min. this aft. at Strawberry Park and it felt so-o-o good to be outside...felt like I had been let out of prison. I was walking what I thought was fast and low and behold, this lady just zips past me as if I were standing still. She had short legs, like me, and did not even look like she was walking fast...arms hardly moving but hoofin' it big time! I was giving it my all and felt very disenchanted when she flew past me. Will I ever be able to walk that fast? I kept my eye on her the whole time and she kept gaining more and more distance on me. I am hoping she is a "tenured walker" and maybe one day I can give her some competition on that walking speed. I have missed being a part of our very special Saturdays for the past 2 weeks. Looking forward to seeing everyone this week!

Cheryl,
So sorry to hear about your son. I hope he is soon on the road to recovery.
Don't worry about your walking speed right now. Just walk. It will come with time.
With all the stress in your life if you can continue to make just a little time for yourself to exercise, you will be more capable of dealing with all of it. I know when my Dad was sick, just getting away for an hour to ride a bike or take a walk helped get through the next 23.
Take care and I hope to see you Saturday.
Hang in there! Just know that you have the support of everyone at MM. I feel just like you when I walk in the park. Everyone just zooms by me and I wonder "will I really be able to run like that?" Keep the faith and we'll get there together!
Wow! You have been through quite a tough ordeal with your son. I hope he continues to get better. Be kind to yourself and don't compare yourself to others. The only thing that matters is that you are out there doing it. I give you tons of credit for your emotional strength. Your physical strength and speed will come with time. Keep up the great work!
